Social Benefits

What are the Social Benefits to be gained from practicing Parkour?

As many experienced parkour practitioners will tell you, parkour is so much more than just movement! The ever-growing parkour community is one of the most welcoming groups of any other sport out there. This naturally gives a large number of social benefits to anyone taking part:

The non-competitive nature of the sport takes away the rivalry found in other mainstream sports. Thanks to this, freerunners can travel the world and feel welcomed by the local community wherever they go.

This lack of rivalry also helps to break down cultural and social barriers, as practitioners can focus on learning from one another without needing to compete with them.

Parkour has also been proven to reduce anti-social behaviour. The term “take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprints” is a common principle applied across the parkour community.

Parkour intends to develop a positive use for existing spaces in the community and promotes a respect for the environment amongst it’s practitioners.
